Stump Server is a media server with movies, TV, stand-up, concerts, and sports. Plex is the app you'll use to watch it (like Netflix).
The Rules
-
No browser streaming
Browsers cause "transcoding" which slows the server for everyone. Use the Plex app only.
-
Avoid your TV's built-in Plex app
Native TV apps also cause transcoding. Use a streaming device instead (see below).
-
Set quality to Original/Maximum
In Plex settings, turn off "auto quality" and set streaming quality to max. Setup steps explain how.
Get a Streaming Device
A $25-50 streaming device ensures smooth playback and is portable (bring it anywhere!).
-
Fire TV Stick 4KRecommendedBest value. $25-40 on sale.Amazon
-
NVIDIA Shield TVBestPremium option if you want the best.Amazon
-
Roku or Apple TV 4KAlso work fine.
Get a 4K version. Links may be outdated - search Amazon for latest model.

Request AccessAfter You Get Access
Once you receive your email invite from Stump, come back here and follow these steps:
Create Your Plex Account (from your phone)
Follow the email invitation to create your Plex account. It's easiest to do this from your phone (or computer). Download the Plex app and sign up there.
Note: The mobile app requires a one-time $5 purchase or Plex Pass subscription. On computers, you must use the desktop app - not the browser.
Get Plex on Your TV
Once your account is set up, you'll want to watch on your TV. You have two options:
- Cast or AirPlay from your phone to your TV (if your TV supports it) - quick and easy for occasional use
- Get a streaming device like a Fire TV Stick or NVIDIA Shield (see recommendations above) - this is the best experience
With a streaming device, you can browse and navigate on your TV just like Netflix - great when watching with others. Or you can always cast from your phone if you want to quickly pick something.
Configure Video Quality (Critical!)
Before watching anything, configure your quality settings to prevent transcoding:
- Turn OFF "Adjust automatically" or "Auto" quality
- Set Remote Streaming Quality to Maximum or Original
- Set Home Streaming Quality to Maximum or Original
Detailed Plex Video Quality Settings Guide
Important: You need to configure this on each device you use with Plex.
When playing a video, verify the quality shows "Original" (not a resolution like 720p or 1080p):
Set Up Your Plex Home Screen
Customize Plex for the best experience:
- Remove other sources - Go to Settings and remove any sources/libraries that aren't from "Stump Server"
- Pin your favorite libraries - Pin these to your home screen: Movies, TV, Stand-up, Concerts
Start Watching!
You're all set! Browse the library and enjoy. Remember to always check that quality shows "Original" when playing.
